The Church of Our Lady, more commonly known as Matthias Church (Mátyás-templom), is located in the heart of Budapest’s Buda Castle district. First built in the 13th century, the church has undergone multiple transformations, with significant alterations made in the 14th and 19th centuries. It served as the coronation church for Hungarian kings, including the coronation of Franz Joseph I in 1867. The church’s stunning Gothic architecture, colorful tiled roof, and ornate interior make it one of Hungary’s most important cultural and religious landmarks. It also played a central role in Hungary’s history, having witnessed key events such as the Siege of Budapest during World War II.
